Summits In the immediate area there are the Pic du Roussillon 1314m, Croix de Marquixanes 1315m, Pic de Toulouse 1339m Pic de la Rouquette 1289m. Most are them are off the beaten track and take a certain amount of determination, which only makes them all the more rewarding! Slightly farther afield (45 min to 1-1/2 hrs) drive are the equally rewarding and more frequented peaks: Canigou 2784m, Madre 2469m, Pic Carlit 2921m, Pic de Bugarach 1230m. |
Birds and butterflies If you're really lucky you might see the rarely spotted Capercaillie, Egyptian Vulture or Lammergayer Butterfly enthusiasts have spotted the following: Swallowtail, Great Banded Grayling, Cleopatra, Adonis Blue, Chalkhill Blue. |
Wildlife Toward the peaks you may well see marmottes and izards There is also an unconfirmed sighting of a bear in the area.... |
